Three people including a police man, have been severely wounded in a fierce clash at Agbogbloshie ‘Sabolai’ market [Onion Market] in Accra, Tuesday.
The clash, according sources, was triggered by an assault on a young girl (age undisclosed) who attended to nature's call at a rival tribe's place.
Peace FM’s reporter, Agya Kwabena narrated that the young girl had gone to 'ease' herself at a place said to be occupied by a rival ethnic group from Mali.
“She was beaten up and sent away. The injured girl then went to tell her father who led her back to where she was beaten. Unfortunately, the father was hit with a hammer, triggering a violent confrontation,” he said.
This resulted in the violent confrontation between the two ethic groups leading to sporadic exchange of gun fire by persons from the two groups.
Police personnel who were deployed to the area to restore peace and order were stoned by the factions.
Several market women for fear of their lives had to flee from the location even though security has been beefed up at the location.
