The U.S. Embassy in Ghana has appealed to the residents of Akwamu Fie to assist the Ghana Police Service with information on the murder of the two American citizens.
A statement from the Embassy said they have confidence in Ghana’s rule of law. The Embassy expressed its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the victims, and added that it is in contact with family members to provide the appropriate consular assistance.
The statement also noted that “due to privacy considerations, we have no further comment at this time. We refer you to local authorities for details on the investigation.”
The Police in Akosombo on Wednesday exhumed the bodies of two African Americans who were killed and buried by some unknown assailants.
The victims had gone missing for some days. Worried neighbours later broke into their room and found blood stains on the floor.
The chief of the area subsequently dispatched a search party to help the Police find the victims.
The victims are a 75-year-old woman identified only as Mamlena and 60-year-old Nzinga.
