Some Residents living at Akramaman and its environs in the Ga South District Assembly in the Greater Accra region have expressed fear of being electrocuted as bamboo sticks are being used in the area as electricity poles by many households.

According to Asare Ntim, a landlord and resident in the area, though the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has not extended their service poles to many parts in the area, the residents have resorted to doing it their way.

Some desperate landlords, he said, have tapped the power as far as from Ayikai Doblo-Akramaman main road using two millimeter cables on bamboo poles connected to over 48 houses.

Mr. Ntim said the nature of the hanging cables is dangerous because some parts of the area are waterlogged and there is the possibility of the bamboo getting rotten in no time.

He alleged that there was an instance when parts of the wires fell in stagnant water, but fortunately nothing happened because there were lights off in the area that day.

The landlord claimed that the Electricity Company is aware of what is happening there and said that the connections from the service pole were done by some ECG technicians.

All efforts to contact William Boateng, the Public Relations Officer of ECG, to enable him react to the story failed as he did not pick up the numerous calls made to him.
