The Eastern regional director of Plan Ghana, a child rights Non-Governmental Organization, Kofi Debrah has condemned the Akuapem Amanfrom Police over a violent arrest of a 15-year-old Junior High School pupil, Yaw Gyeke, at Asuokor, a village in the area, for allegedly fighting with a 25-year-old daughter of a rich man in the community.

Two police officers including the station officer of Akuapem Amanfrom police station, Chief Inspector Essel Ofosu stormed the community at dawn, broke into the room of the suspect while asleep, slapped and handcuffed him in nudity and whisked him away into police cells.

Attempts by residents to seek bail for the young boy did not yield results as the police turned down their appeal.

It took the involvement of Plan Ghana's Eastern regional director before the 15-year-old suspect was granted bail having spent almost 20 hours in police cells.
He has, however, been put before the Akropong Circuit Court on Tuesday. Mr Debrah condemned the action of the police and has promised to ensure that justice is served.
Meanwhile, the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service has joined to seek justice for the young boy.

Residents of Asuokor, which is a farming community in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern region earlier clashed with the police during the violent arrest of the 15-year-old Junior High School pupil.

Residents expressed their anger over the actions of the police and attempted to resist the Rambo- style arrest of the 15-year-old, creating a state of confusion, however, the police managed to bulldoze the suspect to police cells.
