Gregory Afoko, the main suspect in the murder trial of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Upper East Regional chairman, Adams Mahama has descended on Police Prosecutor, Supt. Francis Baah with a stern warning to “stop the lies against” him.

At yesterday hearing, Alfred Adjei Mensah, lawyer for Issah Musah, third accused, who was expected to move an application to have his client’s bail application reviewed, failed to appear due to sickness.

However, moments after the court presided over by His Worship, Worlarno Kotoku adjourned hearing, Afoko pointed his fingers at the prosecutor while in handcuff and screamed “Supt. Baah, stop the lies against me,” when he was led to the police van.

Supt. Francis Baah, the prosecutor in the case who was surprised retorted, “he (Afoko) does not even show remorse.”

Asked by the court where his lawyer was, the 53-year-old farmer said he does not know the where about of his lawyer, Ekow Ampah Korsah.

Musah seeking bail review

At the last adjourned date, the court, presided over by Worlanyo Kotoku, could not hear an intended application expected to have been filed by Alfred Adjei Mensah, lawyer for Musah to have his bail condition reviewed.

This was because Ampah Korsah, counsel for Afoko and the prosecution were both not at the lower court for the application to be moved.

Mr Mensah said his client had been reporting to the police as ordered by the court. He indicated his intention to ask for a review of the aspect of the bail condition that requires Musah to report to the police four times a week.

The trial magistrate, however, stated that if the prosecution and the lawyers for Gregory were not in court on the next adjourned date, he would fix a date to consider the application for the review of the bail application.

Charges

Gregory (first accused) and Issah Musah (third accused) are before the Accra Central Magistrate Court for intentionally and unlawfully causing the death of Adams on May 20, 2015 in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.

The police said, according to its investigations, Musah, who is a member of the NPP, on 19th May19, 2015 procured the deadly acid which he gave to other two suspects who in turn poured the substance on Adams, leading to his death.

Asabke Alangdi, the third accused, has been on the run together with his wife, leaving behind their one-and-a-half-year-old baby. The case has been adjourned to September 8, 2015.
