Calm has returned to the Atulbabisi suburb of the Bolgatanga Municipality in the Upper East region, after Saturday night’s disturbance, which led to some seven persons sustaining various degrees of injuries, including gunshot wounds.

The disturbance is believed to have erupted as a result of a clash between persons believed to be linked to the two Royal Families, involved in an ongoing chieftaincy dispute in the Bolgatanga Traditional Area.

All business activities in the Atulbabisi area have been resumed after some latent calm had returned to the area. Police and Military personnel have been deployed in all corners of the area and its peripheries.

DAILY GUIDE has learnt that, many of the people who fled the area on Saturday have returned to their homes in Atulbabisi, but are however living in fear. Two of the injured persons admitted at the Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga among others have been discharged. Others with serious injuries are still undergoing treatment at the same hospital.

By Monday noon, a team of officials from the Bolgatanga Municipal Office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), together with Members of the Upper East Regional Security Council, led by the Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Daniel Syme, had visited the Atulbabisi suburb to ascertain the situation. The visit was also to enable the two teams respond to the various needs of the people and the area appropriately.

Timothy Anaab is the Bolgatanga Municipal Manager of the National Disaster Management Organization. He has promised the affected persons and households in Atulbabisi some support from his outfit.
