Government has agreed to pay the National Association of Graduate Teacher’s (NAGRAT) and Coalition of Concern Teachers (CTT) their incremental arrears within the next ten days.

This was after a crunch meeting between the two bodies and government on Wednesday.

Citi News’ Franklin Badu Jnr reported that the teachers were represented by the “CCT and NAGRAT but GNAT was absent.”

He added that “government has committed itself to pay all monies owed every teacher in ten days and an MoU has been signed to that effect.”

He said the signing was witnessed by the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu and the Director of the Fair Wages and the Salaries Commission, Mr. Smith Graham.

Earlier, the National Executives of the National Association of NAGRAT, endorsed the planned strike by some of its members.

The Greater Accra and Ashanti regional branches served notice of the intended strike if government failed to pay allowances which have been in arrears for several months.

Angel Carbonu warned; “we will not take any flimsy assurance” from government “if is not based on any concrete evidence that the monies have been reviewed,” and the payment procedure started.

He maintains that the Association has adopted that action because the institutions involved in addressing their grievances have been “lackadaisical.”

“We do not see any serious commitment on their part and if they have been serious and committed, we wouldn’t have gotten to this point,” added the NAGRAT’s Vice president.

Volta Region

In the Volta Region, members of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) and the graduate teachers in the region gave government a 24-hour ultimatum to pay up all their allowances or face their wrath.

Brong Ahafo

Citi News Brong Ahafo Regional Correspondent, Kwadwo Brefo reported that the NAGRAT branch there also threatened strike.
