I join many on our continent and across the world to congratulate my good friend, President Alpha Conde, on his re-election as the President of Guinea, a result which was subsequently confirmed by the country’s Constitutional Court on Saturday, October 28, 2015.
The 58% margin of victory chalked by President Conde in the October 18 election is, indeed, an affirmation of the confidence the Guinean people have reposed in him, after a lifetime spent in the struggle for democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law, and for solidarity amongst the African peoples.
By the result of this election, the Guinean people have also strengthened their democratic credentials, following the positive history they made by electing for the first time, in 2010, their national leader within the context of democratic principles and multi-party competition.
I wish President Conde and the Guinean people the very best of luck in the years to come, as Guinea unleashes her tremendous potential to develop into a thriving, prosperous democratic state.
It is my hope that the relations between Guinea and Ghana will grow from strength to strength in the second term of Alpha Conde’s presidency.
