President John Dramani Mahama has said there is the need for a shift in the thinking of the media in Ghana, in order to create a situation where emphasis is placed on positive news over negative stories.
According to him, there is the need to restructure media programmes to focus on the achievements of Ghana, and not only the challenges confronting the country.
“We are always highlighting our negatives against our positives. Every day, you listen to the media and it is like nothing is working in this country, but there are a lot of successes that we should be championing and encouraging our people that we have been able to get this far…” he said, during his Accounting to the People tour of the Ashanti Region on Thursday June 30.
“We can go even further. Our media thinking too must change. Every programme goes with phone in sessions. I think the media’s duty is to inform and educate and often when you want to educate, you must bring a man of God or an academic or an intellectual who understands the subject and let him educate people without the interruption of people calling in and diverting the argument completely.”
