Allegations of malfeasance are flying high at the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) but its President, Mr Christian Sottie says “it is just a small in-house challenge raised by some members” and was therefore not “malfeasance per se but it has to do with procedure”.

According to a source for the first time since its establishment in 1963, ICAG had its Management account rejected by the Board. “ICAG is one of the most credible institutions in Ghana but what has just happened is very worrying. As Accountants, how can your own accounts be rejected? It is a terrible situation my brother” the source told The New Crusading GUIDE.

The source continued that, as a result of the rejection of the 2015 Management Accounts, the Board set up a Committee to investigate and come up with its report but “ as I am talking to you, the Committee has not submitted the report and we do not know when it would be ready”.

The President of ICAG, Prof. Omane Antwi, perhaps sensing the embarrassment, failed to appear at the twice postponed Annual General Meeting where the Accounts was rendered”, the source alleged further.

However, speaking to the newly inducted President of ICAG, Mr. Sotie denied the claim that Prof. Omane Antwi deliberately stayed away from the AGM. Mr. Sotie showed The New Crusading GUIDE a text message from the immediate past President informing him of his inability to make it to the AGM due to ill health. “So you see, it is not true that he did that intentionally. Indeed prior to the AGM, Prof was not feeling well.”

Tackling the allegation of embezzlement, Mr Sottie said “we (ICAG) are the repository of all the good and internationally accepted Accounting practices so if the right procedure or processes were not followed, then it was right to get some people among the membership to go into it and report to us. The report is not ready so no one can say it is a malfeasance”.

“It is a technical and internal matter”, he added.  He however could not tell when the report of the Committee would be ready.

Please stay tuned
