Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan has expressed disappointment in the previous government's failure to raise the much-needed capital to resuscitate the Komenda Sugar Factory.
According to him, contrary to reports that the Komenda Sugar Factory was in production; “there’s no start-up capital as well as raw materials for the production of sugar”, hence the inability of the factory to produce sugar on a large scale.
In his first media interaction in Cape Coast, Hon. Duncan noted that about $16 million will be needed to revive the factory in order to resume operation.
He however believed the Komenda Sugar Factory will boost sugar cane production which will help create jobs for farmers in the Region, and so was hopeful the factory will start operations soon.
Hon. Duncan further stated that he also wants to “set up an award scheme to uplift the falling standard of education in the Region” to resolve the challenges confronting the residents.
He called on the people in the Central Region to support his vision.

Mr minister, can u learn on ur job for a while?
kwamena you are now are regional minister and not radio minister. it is time for action use your god given brains not the big mouth. criticizing is very different from doing, consult and plan strategically else you will be exposed big time. which will be a big disgrace for the region. for now l do not know of any indeginee fante as a cabinet minister. you reap what you plant. cassava is not the same as crocodile just because they all begin with the letter c. a word to a wise is in the north. being shs teacher does not necessary qualifies you to become a regional minister
We were promised Sugar from Nov last year by Spio Garbrah. Need to see sugar . Millions of dollars wasted no sugar if it was their personal money they woud have taken care of it. NDC ooh waste of resources. How do you fix something when even there is no sugar cane planted? So you were lying to us. Voters will punish you there next time for pulling a fast one on them.
We need to be told the current status of the factory. You remember NDc made an ***barred word*** noise of this project.
Folks you see how stuoopid our politicians are? can a sensible person be making such a statement? This is a national asset for crying out loud. If NPP government did it will this song have changed? We are in bad business as a people because our politicians are so stoupid its not funny. So it should be left to rot because it was not done by that cult they call a party. God save us
If only my people will leave politics and insults behind this country will thrive far. If peoples parties are not power, then it should not go well for the one power. My prayer is for the country to move forward not political parties.
The minister has raised serious concerns about the hurriedly propaganda Sugar Factory. I am not surprised to see some dead brains here telling him to ***barred word*** and fix it. He has not said he won't fix it. If the main source of the river is having a problem, should he keep quiet while those at the down stream are hopeful of water? Ghana is in such a hopeless state because of people who think they should contribute at all cost, even though they are incapacitated through the mind.
You spend money to build a factory with no sugar cane basic raw material needed. NDC should accept liability. Before this factory closed in the early 80s there were massive sugar cane plantations around the place. We visited the place twice as students in 79 and 80 when a student at Mfantsipim. Politics aside where are the plantations to feed the factory. This will create farming opportunities for the people around. Visit all sugar cane plants around Africa, Malawi, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Zambia you will see massive sugar cane plantations around. Cheap electioneering projects will not help Ghana.
When in opposition this guy talk saaaaaaaaaaaaa. Now it is your turn to do something for us in Central region. Stop the complaining and hit the ground running. Talk they say is always cheap but doing is the most difficult.
what knowledge and technical know how has this concert man?central region is full of comedians without brains.fantes are lazy.he will talk aaaa without any thing good to offer.cheap politics in npp, because this guy was talking on peace fm,he has been appointed by akufo addo.very shameful.
