Customers of the defunct DKM Diamond Microfinance have indicated that they are waiting patiently on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government to fully take shape and address their concerns.

The microfinance company was one of several institutions closed down by the Bank of Ghana in 2015 for operating illegally, with customers defrauded of investments running into millions of Ghana cedis.

Alex Obeng, spokesperson for the affected victims of DKM, speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom, on Accra100.5FM on Wednesday March 29 said they were initially disappointed when the payment of their monies was not captured in the budget statement presented to parliament by the Finance Minister.

However, Regional Minister Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, during his vetting, assured that a committee would be put in place to map out plans to repay monies owed affected persons, an assurance Mr Obeng has said gives them hope.

He said: “During the campaign, the NPP promised to help us retrieve our monies and because of that most of us carried out a door-to-door campaign for the NPP.

“And so we thought that the government would have indicated in the budget that they were going to pay us the monies, but that was not the case. This caused some anxieties among the customers. However, our hope was restored when the regional minister, Asomah-Cheremeh, during his vetting explained that he was fully aware of what had happened and so a committee would be set up to investigate and make sure that all of us are paid back our monies.

“This has really given us some hope that they will pay us. At the moment the NPP government is yet to appoint all the MCEs and DCEs and so we are patiently waiting for the government to finish appointing the DCEs then we take it from there.”
