President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians to support his wife, the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo in her project; ‘Save a Child, save a Mother’.
Mrs. Akufo-Addo has been garnering support from Ghanaians and corporate organisations to raise GHc 10 million to construct a new mother and baby unit at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
The First Lady on Sunday 28 May was in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital where she held a fundraising ceremony for the project. Prior to this was a similar event held in Accra on May 4 which yielded GH¢8 million.
In a tweet the President wrote: “I am proud of what @rakufoaddo is doing to assist Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. Let us all support her to #SaveAChildSaveAMother.”

It's interesting how wives of Ghana Presidents are never involved in such ventures prior to their husbands becoming presidents yet form these Foundations immediately their husbands become presidents. Mention can be made of Foundations like the Theresa Kufuor and Lordina Foundations not to forget the almighty Government Owned Non Governmental Organization called the 31-Dec.Women's Organization. For Naadu, I think her late husband's posture on corruption barred her from forming any of those groups. By the way, why is it that these foundations defunct just when the presidents leave office? That raises issues of source of financing
Where is the budget for the health ministry? Where are the NHIL collections? You hold the national purse and you still beg? Is this the competence we want?
President begging for arms? The whole president?
This is where they will get their chop chop. These collections will not be properly accounted for. Mark my words.
