The managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr says the major reason why mob action is increasing in the country is the ‘lack of faith in state institutions’.
“What we are discussing is a national security situation; it’s a major challenge for national cohesion, a functioning state. What we are discussing is a sliding into a banana republic…what we are talking about is impunity; the lack of faith in our security establishment. The refusal of state actors to punish crime, that’s what we are talking about…and we should focus attention on that in order to deal with the problem
…we’ve had a situation where the ECG office has been attacked and vandalised by persons who claim to have grievances against ECG. They did not go to the police, they did not go to the court, they simply attacked the ECG and burnt the office…it should be telling us something. The fundamental question in all of this is; why is it that citizen feel or have been made to feel that when they have grievances, recourse to state institutions will not address those grievances and that they would have to address those grievances themselves?” he rhetorically asked.
Kwesi Pratt, who was commenting on the lynching of Captain Maxwell Mahama, said during a panel discussion on Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhaji that if soldiers are not having confidence in the police to do its work, how much more civilians.
“The soldiers say they have no confidence in the police and that they should be allowed to handle a case of alleged murder; how different is that from all the other people who are refusing to go to the police? How come foreign mining companies come to operate in our country and our security services decide that detachment of our armed forces should go and protect them; protect them against whom? What is the role of the army; is the role of the army to protect us or the foreign multinational companies who are wreaking havoc in our communities? Why send an innocent fine officer to go and protect one of these foreign companies? Why? I don’t understand. That is why I am in full sympathy with the soldiers who are saying that from now on they should not be involved in those operations. The soldiers that are saying they should not be involved in such operations are saying something that we ought to listen to,” he said.

for once kwesi pratt has said somehting very sensible. that is the million dollar question. which mining company was a detachment of the ghana armed forces protecting in the forest? this is question ghanaians should be asking and not stop this emotional ***barred word***!
KWAKU BAAKO'S MAFFIA COFFEE GROUP, INCLUDING KABA AND KWAME SEFA KAI, ARE TRYING HARD TO SUPPRESS THE TRUTH. WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE MINING COMPANY THE SOLDIER WAS PROTECTING? WHO OWNS IT? WHY SHOULD A WHOLE MILITARY PROTECT IT? I AM 100% SURE KWAKU BAAKO HAS THE ANSWERS. BUT AS FOR THIS ONE, HE WILL NOT REVEAL IT FOR NOKOFIO. HE IS THE NUMBER ONE HYPOCRITICAL JOURNALIST IN TOWN NOW.
Inusah Feseini says he started it when Anglogold PRO man was killed so the chamber of mines approached them to security personnel to protect their facilities. Kwesi should have asked the question then. Hypocrisy
A minute silent to Captain Mahama!! Good people really do not live long indeed!! I just cannot come into terms with this inhumane killing of this young responsible handsome man. Not even his compassionate face and calmness could make these people think twice. Looking at the video of the confession of the eyewitness (the young man who first picked him on his motto during the mob attack), Captain Mahama even insisted that, they call the police because he is not an arm robber but a soldier. He later joined a timber car but the people still kept following him. He got out of the truck because he did not want to get the driver of the truck in trouble. This shows that he is really a kind hearted person. Seriously, his death is evident of the fact that most Ghanaians do not work with facts but assumptions and hearsays!!! People who just take action based on assumptions and hearsays should desist from that! Arm robbers are wicked people, who kill and take away valuable possessions. They are well organised for their bad deeds! No arm robber will behave like Captain Mahama, who was so considerate till death. His loss cannot be replaced no matter how much we punish or kill the perpetrators. Nothing, in fact nothing, can replace him. The sadness of the whole truth is he is gone for good. May his soul rest in perfect peace. My heartfelt condolences to the family and love ones of the late Captain Maxwell Mahama. (Guide me oh thou great Jehovah….) - A song for the widow!!!
Frankly; mine take on this matter is simple ; this poor soldier was sent death by these GREEDY POLITICIANS including NDC/NPP and Kwesi Pratt is correct ;the question is ; is it the job of our army to be defending chinese or foreign gold miners or better still why have we turned our army into watchmen and land guards ; have the army not got better things to do besides Jon Mahama and some powerful NPP powerful people have interest in this gold mining business and if Nana Addo knew of the operations of such army activity why did he not call the defence minister to investigate and STOP such operations; the minister complained about the presence of these soldiers around the mining plot ; what did Nana Addo do about this and why did the government wait till this poor army officer had to die ; THIS CANNOT BE RIGHT!!!!!!! : NANA ADDO SHOULD STAMP ON THE BRAKES BANISH THIS GOLD MINING UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE; for me Nana Addo and the government were aware of what was happening in the area but refused to take action besides Nana Addo should be careful because sooner or later some bad nuts will give him a bad name ; to me this has been result of tradegy and a SAD; SAD; SAD ; SAD STORY OF MAX MAHAMA !!!!!!MAY HIS SOULD REST IN PERFECT PEACE !!!!!
Bumps of life. Can hit anyone. Folks don't think through when anything pops into their brains. Wait till uncertainties start unfolding in your life then you will understand life. Until then say whatever pops into your brains.
...Its sad that we have lost a man. but lets not allow this unfortunate act stop many questions to be asked. A whole captain in the Forrest allegedly protecting galamsey. What a John country!!! Listen to the assembly man and DCE!
Kwesi Pratt must direct those questions to his friend the corrupt and greedy John Ford Dramani Mahama... John Mahama was just use11ess as our president who presided over a rotten country. Nothing work for him. He was all involved in create, l00t and share. Galamsey was totally out of control whiles he looks on unconcerned. No right thinking Ghanaian will vote for such a joker president like John Mahama who is only interested in his own. Very greedy person. The murdered soldier's family must demand answers from John Mahama and his NDC.
Massa Kwasi, for so many years we have not agreed on a single issue. But for this one, it's as if you stole these comments from my head. I salute you honorable, may you live long! You spoke the gospel truth. It's the same thing I have been saying and asking over here in the USA.
Prat should ask former president John Mahama, why soldiers were protecting foreign mining companies. There are more questions to be asked but let our brother be buried peacefully then we will ask those questions. John Mahama ripped this country. Kwesi Pratt should ask John Mahama why he couldn't fight galamsey? We have the answers but folks just relax, after the burial we will ask the questions then Ghanaians will know what the NDC did with galamsey to benefit folks like Pratt who has now interestingly got a voice to talk about social vices
