Minister of Communications, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has said the absence of free internet services at the various airports in the country is an illegality.
According to her, per best practices, these entry points into the country and several others should provide free internet for the people.
Speaking to journalists after a forum organised by the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) in Accra on Friday, 28 July 2017, she said: “I think it is criminal that we don’t have free Wi Fi in our airports and other ports of entry, it is criminal.”
She continued: “In selected public spaces in Accra, we should be able to have free Wi-Fi and in the restaurants and drinking spots as well. You travel outside and it is one of the services they offer. It differentiate them from other establishments so you may think you are spending on free Wi-Fi for your clients but you are attracting more clientele who will come there and browse and buy the products that you are selling. So for me it also makes business sense.”

Visionary woman God bless you
A decorated monkey, just put one there and shut the fork up.
Did she say criminal, illegality? Is there any law on the books that says internet service should be provided at the airports and that said law is being violated? Did she just want to talk big as a lawyer on criminality? I think she should just work on getting internet at the airports.
so what is the criminality and illegality of not providing free wifi at the airport? we are tired of these social sciences lawyers in ghana aba!
What is she supposed to do about it. She has to talk about it first because it seems like our hospitality establishments in Ghana don't know about this! Is she going to have her ministry fund it for them? Of course not. All the ministry can do is let parliament pass a bill and then it would be mandatory for them to do so. You're here just criticizing, being the usual Ghanaian spectator and not a citizen! And yes, it's obvious you're one and the same commentator!
do something about it and don NOT tell us about the problems.
Thanks Ursula and also as you rightly said hotels and restaurants as in most countries. Actually for hotels you just add a small margin about 2 -5 $ to room rates and it will take care of your cost and as Ursula said it attracts clientele. Even in Kenya most 'tro tro" now in partnership with Safaricom has wifi in public transport and it is attracting a lot. We need to update and push our systems to join the comity of nations
what are you doing about it? Are you going to sit there and describe the problems or are you going to solve problems before they even become problems in the first place.
