The Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) has explained that its Rector, Dr Wilberforce Dzisah is proceeding on a voluntary leave to allow for investigations.

According to the institute, media reports suggesting that the Governing Council asked him to proceed on leave was incorrect and does not represent the position of the Council.

A rejoinder signed by the Registrar of the institute, Mr Perry P. K. Ofosu debunked the media reports and stated that the “Rector voluntarily notified his management team and the Chairman of Council of his intention to take part of his annual leave from Wednesday, 27th December, 2017 and to resume duty on Thursday, 1st February, 2018”.

Below is the rejoinder in full

1. Re: GIJ RECTOR ASKED TO PROCEED ON LEAVE

2. Re: GIJ RECTOR UNDER PROBE OVER PROCUREMENT INFRACTIONS

The attention of the Ghana Institute of Journalism has been drawn to two news items carried on Ghanaweb thus: “The Rector of GIJ Asked to Proceed on Leave” and “GIJ rector Under Probe for Procurement Infractions”.

These stories are incorrect and does not represent the position of Council. Rather, Dr. Wilberforce Dzisah, the Rector voluntarily notified his management team and the Chairman of Council of his intention to take part of his annual leave from Wednesday, 27th December, 2017 and to resume duty on Thursday, 1st February, 2018. This, in his view is to allow for a smooth investigation of some concerns raised including academic integrity and procurement practices.

It must also be noted that, nowhere in the statement setting-up an investigative committee was the Rector accused of indulging in procurement infractions or academic dishonesty.
Kindly take the necessary steps to correct this error as the story is erroneous and contrary to the intentions of the Governing Council.
