The Presiding Bishop of Gospel Light International Church has bashed the leadership of the Minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament, asking it to refrain from using unprintable words to describe the Speaker of Parliament.
Bishop Addae-Mensah, who appears to be unhappy with the conduct of the Minority in the august house, has called on the Minority leader Haruna Idrisu and the Asawase Member of Parliament (MP), Muntaka Mubarak and the other young minority MPs to show respect to the Speaker of the House.
In an interview, the man of God said he was amazed to hear Hon Haruna telling the Speaker that he (Haruna) would disrespect him, if he dared him.
“I have also on several occasions heard Hon Muntaka and some of his colleagues on radio using unprintable words in an attempt to accuse the Right Honorable Speaker of Parliament, Prof Aaron Mike Oquaye of deliberately trying to frustrate and prevent the minority from contributing to issues on the floor of parliament.”
Bishop Addae-Mensah said: “Even in the wake of such disagreements, resorting to acidic and insulting words to humiliate the leader of such house is unparliamentarily and portrays insincerity and hypocrisy.”
“Even though the house has its own rules and procedures, there are avenues where grievances of such nature could be channeled for redress rather than rushing to the radio and TV with stinking language to describe a well respected personality like Prof Oquaye, he added.
“What kind of morals are these minority members showing the current generation of our children? For me, leadership of parliament must be with brains and not brawn. It is unacceptable in our culture to look at a man old enough to be your father and call him names,” he said.
“Hon Muntaka Mubarak likened the Speaker of Parliament’s actions in the house to that of Iddi Ammin or Mobutu and it’s an insult to himself and the party he belongs to. It tells the kind of training he had at home.”
“If someone looks him in the face and calls him a ‘fool’ or ‘stupid’ will he master the courage or the moral right to drag such a person to the privileges committee?” he quizzed.
According to the Presiding Bishop, leadership is a seed, what one sows is what he reaps.”
He said minority leaders like J.H Mensah, Paapa Owusu Ankomah and Kingsford Alban Bagbin in the same parliament performed creditably.
Bishop Addae-Mensah believes the performance of the particular minority group in parliament might be the worst in history.
“It appears since the emergence of the fourth Republic in our current democratic dispensation, I think this batch of Minority group in parliament is the most awful I have ever seen.
“Though I know there are a lot of descent and well respected men and women among the NDC MPs, there are also few young ones who are trying to become ‘hawks’ overnight with egoistic intent of wanting to gain popularity.”
Meanwhile, Bishop AddaeMensah has also called on Nana Obiri- Boahen to honourably resign his post owing to the unguided comments he made about his own party.

I don't know what has taken over these Northern mps. In fact they are making ndc very very unattractive and destroying the party that JJ Rawlings and his wife toiled for. I don't even know if John mahama's presidency have grown them those wings which are getting into the eyes of every Ghanaian and making the chances of other good people from the North slim. Very very arrogant and insulting, but they should know their John mahama whose wings they stood to that status will never and I repeat will never come back to the seat of government not in Ghana, because we can't take the attitude of these people. Everyone is complaining and asking what do they want and what are they looking for? To gain popularity is not by force, to gain popularity is not insulting and arrogance and these people are becoming unbecoming. Is that your culture to insult elders, to show impunity and disrespect to older people who have children who are better than you? Abufusem!
This NPP hypocrite of a bishop must know, that the Parliament house is NOT his abusafie. Does he know what is equally means to be a leader of the minority ? Does this hypocrite NPP bishop know the meaning of DEMOCRACY ? Oh perhaps he thinks the constituents that elected members of the minority are not humans. Or rather he thinks there are no elderlies ,much older than the speaker of parliament in those constituencies. What kind of pastors , or bishops are these. Pharisees
If not politics can this ***barred word*** ***barred word*** called Muntaka insult Prof Oquaye by referring to him as Idi Amin, is all because they are no elders in their party and in their homes, is only in the NDC that old men who have developed cemetery flowers behave like kids, there is no differentiation in the party, those holding high positions in the party are the ones who can insult More, they don’t respect the elderly, how can Asiedu Nketia refer to Rawlings as barking d0g, their stock in trade is insults, that’s why all the young men in the party have also learned
God richly bless you bishop for boldly telling the truth.
Bishop, you are right. Even in the animals kingdom cool heads prevail. They are still daydreaming about the election defeat of 2016.They will continue to hallucinate till thy kingdom come. No more pampers, no more kebab,no more adum dum dum. And now the Special Prosecutor is here.
Bishop you have made my day. This current crop of minority leadership in parliament are arrogant and disrespectful. Compared to the minority groups we have had in the past, this group who to a large extent are inmature have demonstrated their lack of decent training at home and ironically they are youthful. I have said time and again that the age for entry into parliament should be above 45 years. We can't have kids desecrating our parliamentary institutuion
You are on point Bishop. We need people with high moral values like you to shape the conscience of our people especially the Youth. Where is all the respect for the elderly that our fathers thought us about. Even if you are frustrated there is a way to go about it. Dare anybody speak to them in the same way and you will be dragged to the Privileges Committee. I guess parliament is above the law or sorry, they are the law. LOL
As much as I agree with you Bishop about respect. it must also go to the speaker to also respect the rules of the House. oif a leader is on his feet, you do not ignore the leader. Respect is mutual Mr Bishop
Well spoken Bishop. may God richly bless you
@Koliko may God forgive u. We now live in a generation where Men of God are criticized for correcting people and will also complain when men of God say nothing. And these same people run to these men of God when there is danger. Politics won't take you to paradise,so keep disrespecting people in the name of politics. There is a mighty One up there watching u.
