The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) and the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) have jointly expressed deep appreciation to President Akufo-Addo for his bold approach towards the fight against corruption and bribery in the Ghanaian society.
In a joint communiqué issued by the CCG and the GCBC on Wednesday and signed by Rev Philip Naameh, President, Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference and Rev. Seth S. Agidi, Chairman, Christian Council of Ghana, the two bodies welcomed the setting up of the Office of Special Prosecutor, congratulating those appointed so far to run the Office.
“We, however, urge strongly that this campaign cannot be another lip service. We call for transparency and integrity in investigations to ascertain corrupt practices and demand that culprits be duly prosecuted in accordance with the laws of our country.,” according to the communiqué.
President Akufo-Addo has since assuming office on January 7, 2017, made bold moves to tackle corruption and bribery head-on.
He recently ordered the arrest of Ghana Football Association (GFA) president, Kwasi Nyantakyi, for allegedly using his (president’s) name in a supposed case of bribery.
Both the GCBC and the CCG have urged that rather than sitting on the fence and criticizing, Ghanaians must assist the president in the fight against corruption.
In the Communiqué the two bodies charged, “All Ghanaians, especially Christians, are called upon to work harder to eliminate the evil of bribery and corruption, to cherish fearless honesty, probity and accountability.”
Meeting
The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference and the Christian Council of Ghana held their annual joint meeting at the Mary Mother of God Counsel Catholic Church, Airport West, Accra, on Wednesday, May 16, 2018.
They held an Ecumenical Service to pray for Christian unity, the wellbeing of the government and Ghanaians as a whole under the theme, “Unity with Christ and with each other for peace and mutual up-building.”
Christianity Losing Impact
The religious bodies noted “with very grave concern various abuses in some worshipping centres in Ghana in the name of spirituality, prophetic revelations and divine intervention.”
According to the communiqué, “These happenings in the Christian fraternity discredit the Gospel and cause people to despise the positive influence of the Word of God.”
It further underscored, “We are concerned that the role of Christianity ‘as the salt of the earth and light of the world’ (cf. Matt 5:13-14) is losing impact as a result of the self-serving practices of some Christian leaders. We abhor such practices and call upon such leaders to tend the flock of the Lord faithfully.
“We therefore, wish to draw the attention of Christians and the nation to the following: No human person or object should take the place of Christ as object of worship. Christians should put their faith in Jesus Christ alone to meet all their needs, even in times of difficulties. Christians and all citizens should cherish the values of hard work, patient endurance, moderation and contentment.”

CHRISTIANITY IS DEAD
u guys just wake up eh? hypocrites. The Clearing Agent is fighting Corruption?
CRIMINAL CLERGY.GOD HAS NOTICED YOUR DOUBLE STANDARDS . contaminated oil, $1.5 million for road safety campaign, $5million for president, $3million for vice, $189million diggy contract with ministry of communication, bogus GPS WHERE WERE YOU . Did they investigate ?????
Awuni, no weapon formed against the righteous will work. I'm also a Christian and believe in the Bible and know what Satan can do and what he can't do! Jesus was tempted several times by satan in the wilderness but in all he succeeded, if it were today, ndc would have propagated that Jesus was promised to rule over the world by satan so anything that Jesus did was satanic because once he was tempted it means to the ndc he accepted. These are the people Ghana is dealing with real satanic, another one is Job,if it were today ndc would have mocked him and called him names and a liar but their thinking and deeds are not GOD'S. Ndc will suffer papa because of their evil thoughts against others, Nana Addo is not corrupt and will never be corrupt and no matter how ndc will try to pain the man like John mahama will work, John Mahama received a second hand car as gift from a Burkinabe and he never denied that and the car was real, somebody using someone's name to influence his own gain, if that can be a subject for the ndc to run with it, I tell them it will not work and ndc disgrace in 2020 will be more than 2016. Ndc can hire whoever they want to Tempt the President of the republic it will not work because he was brought up in a knit home with honesty and faithfulness. If your parents are not thi*ves how do you become a thi*f? These ndc thi*ves have their roots as thi*ves, John mahama's father was sacked by Osagyefo and replaced him with Dr Bawumiah's father as the Northern regional commissioner because he stole from the state so no wonder if his son is doing the same thing. Ndc can never compare the rogue and conman John mahama to Akufo Addo because they are two different people from different homes. Whereas Akufo Addo doesn't own the name Akufo Addo but his father he will protect that name, whether rain or shine because that name has made a mark in Ghana already, John mahama doesn't care of that name to protect it because that is their stock in trade, you go into government to ste*l and acquire wealth but not to serve the people. Ndc mo besu ara awu ! You don't have a message, but Ghanaians are discerning and too big for this archaic soviet inferior tactics. You will rot in opposition.
I knew this CAPTION was going to be a deception and skewed, per your own reporting,"Rev Philip Naameh, President, Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference and Rev. Seth S. Agidi, Chairman, Christian Council of Ghana, the two bodies welcomed the setting up of the Office of Special Prosecutor, congratulating those appointed so far to run the Office." This does not amount to congratulating Mr. President,Clearance-General, One-Day One-Scandal for fighting anything. As a Catholic I would have been very disappointed if they congratulated him on fighting rather that upon the appointment of Special Prosecutor as they have wise done. I also feel sorry for them as Leaders of the Church who fail to call the Spade and Spade but something else, will John the Baptist, David and the many Saints have spoken this way as in case of the early church.
WHAT CORRUPTION ARE THEY FIGHTING FOR? THE NPP MADE A LOT OF NOISE ABOUT MAHAMA AND HIS NDC CORRUPT TENDENCIES YET SO FAR THE NPP HAVE NOT PROVEN ANYTHING.THEY SHOULD STOP FALSELY ACCUSING AND RECITING THE CORRUPTION MANTRA.
Nana Addo has made great moves against corruption but he can do better. There's more room for improvement
They are just chalatans.
Why Not??!! GOD is watching you all!! At the RIGHT TIME, you’ll all get your due recompense!!
