The Adjabeng District Magistrate Court in Accra has fixed July 4 for the commencement of the trial of Hajia Fati Amadu, the embattled member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), who has been charged with assault.

Hajia Fati been accused of assaulting Ohemaa Sekyiwaa, a reporter from private owned radio station Adom FM, who was at the NPP Headquarters at Asylum Down, Accra to cover an event of the party on Friday, May 4, 2018.

She was subsequently invited by the police and later charged with assault and damaging of property.

During her maiden appearance in court, she pleaded not guilty and was admitted to a bail in the sum of GH₵10,000 with one surety.

Nkrabeah Effah Dartey, who represented her, told the court that the case against his client had been unnecessarily exaggerated, with high level of media trial.

He announced to the court that attempts were being made to settle the case amicably out of court since it’s a misdemeanor amenable to settlement by law.

However, when Hajia Fati appeared in court yesterday her lawyers Nana Obiri Boahen and Augustine Gyamfi told the judge that the parties could not settle the matter out of court.

Nana Obiri Boahen told the court that “we will never go back to the drawing board. We want the matter to be settled by the court to its logical conclusion.”

Haji Fati was accompanied by about 30 people.
