President Nana Akufo-Addo has condemned the conduct of the policeman who assaulted the woman at the Shiashie branch of Midland Savings and Loans in Accra.
“Yesterday we had some very bad news in Accra – police beating up a woman who had gone to get money at the Midland Loans and Savings Company. I want to say here: policemen are meant to protect citizens and not to assault citizens” he said.
According to him, “the measures that the IGP has taken to sanction the erring policeman and to make sure these don’t happen again, have my complete support. I support 100 percent the measures he has taken so that we can stop these incidents from proliferating”
Background
Lance Corporal Frederick Amanor was captured in a video, violently beating up Patience Osafo who was reportedly at the Midland Savings and Loans banking hall to withdraw an amount of GHC270; she has been chasing for some time.
In the video, the police officer, who was armed with an assault rifle, is seen striking the woman, who was holding her baby, multiple times on the head, first with an umbrella, and then with his fists.
The officer also attempted to drag her violently out of the building.
The woman in the video, was holding a baby which she later disclosed in an interview on UTV that she was her grandchild.

Ghana Ba, if we ask him to feed her for 5 years, he will do worse things to raise 10% of the source funding. He is among many of our security officers who commit heinous crimes including open bribes, robbing with guns, molesting people
Thank God for the Video footage. Who would have believed her report had there not been the video coverage? Only God knows those who are being victimized in such a cruel manner but have nothing to support their claims other than oral narration which is squashed even before they end telling them. God intervened at the right moment. The Bank has no Customer Care Ethics and should not be allowed to go on with this kind of operation as if they are doing the customers favour. 5 days, and you cannot withdraw your own toiled-for cash? So if all decide to keep their monies with them where would the engine to drive the economy be?We need to think and overhaul the supply chain management holistically if we are to grow the economy...Long queues and hostility from the Banking staff are enough to keep a lot of monies in the homes of people thereby chalking the circulation of monies in the system....Let all stakeholders take a cue from this and adopt end-2-end measures to stimulate the interest of all in our banking system...
The Police man must pay compensation to the woman. Feed her for five years. He is not the only one doing bad things to women. Nana Abor Yamoah, chief of Gomoa Fetteh is doing same thing. He has abused Hajara Kadiri. You can call her on 0243783229 for details of her story.
God richly bless you Mr. President for taking a step to support dealing with inhuman attitude of that Police officer. I think there is something wrong within the upper chamber, i mean his brain.
The woman should contact Human rights Lawyer, Sosu and sue the Bank Ghc100M for damages, and sue the Ghana Police for Ghc150M for causing bodily harm. Any Judge in his.her right mind will award suit in her favor, and when she turns Ghc270 to Ghc250M, people will learn common sense dealing with citizenry. How I wish it was me that was beaten in video, no one can imagine.
This is the Hour and moment of Truth. When you throw a Stone to the Wall, it comes back to hit you. I blame this unprofessional Policing on NDC and NPP Politicians. Who used their so-called unholy Protocol to push their uncivilized and uneducated Foot-Soldiers To Public Institutions like the: Military, Police, Fire Service, Immigration Customs etc, etc. I think the best solution is, all this Service personnel need to go back to Training. To learn everything all over again, to avoid future calamity like this. If not, the worse and unexpected is yet to come. Mark my word.
