AFAG is alarmed the turn of events at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). A seemingly latent issue has now led to the destruction of government and private properties and the indefinite closure of the school. This is a situation, which, with deft hands and maturity could have been solved, and destruction avoided.
The stance of the VC and University management was unilateral, chauvinistic and gave little room for dialogue. From the onset, negotiations with students were deemed to fail partly as a result of intransigent position taken both students and school management.
The impasse has been costly and needs drastic actions.
AFAG takes no sides on the issue. This notwithstanding, it is important for action to be taking to resolve issues and restore normalcy in order to reopen the University immediately.
AFAG shares the view that students do not make policy for universities. Having said this, it was necessary for the school management to have involved the student body in the decision making process in making such an important decision. Failure caused alienation, which has in turn led to rioting leading to loss of property and the eventual closure of the university.
Furthermore, AFAG is appalled at the failure of National Security, Ashanti Regional Security Council and the Minister for Education for failure to utilize their enormous resource to avert the situation from reaching this disastrous level.
AFAG therefore resolves that;
1. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Obiri-Danso having presided over this debacle must be step aside to make way for a proper investigation into the causes of this saga.
2. The Minister for Education must set up a committee to investigate the actions of all actors in the impasse and recommends actions to remedy the situation.
3. AFAG condemns the rioting by the students. Anyone caught on camera for destructing properties must be arrested and prosecuted.
4. The Ashanti Regional Security Council must deploy security personal to the campus not only to enforce the curfew but to protect the VC, students included, property and staff living on campus as well.

The brutish and demonic demonstration sponsored by some political heavy-weights was not only to derail the forward march of the University, but purposely, to criminalize the good works of the astute Vice-Chancellor whose term of office is showing tremendous improvement in the life of the University; just because he belongs to the opposite divide of the polorized political landscape. Most, if not all the items shamelessly destroyed, can be credited to his administration which has won massive commendation in and outside the campus. Having the achieved their diabolical intention, they are now calling for head. This is shameful and must be condemned by civil society. Sadly enough, the various mouthpieces of the entire workforce have kept silence while the Prof. Obiri-Danso is being sent to the slaughter house like a sacrificial lamb.
IT SAD THAT GHANAIANS ARE AFRAID TO CONDEMN THIS PRIMITIVEEEEE AND BARBARICCCC ACT OF KNUST STUDENTS. HISTORY TESTIFIES THAT DEMONSTRATORS WITH GENUINE CONCERNS DO NOT RESULT TO BRUTEEEE AND VIOLENCE TO ADDRESS THEIR GRIEVANCES. YES, PEEOPLE IN DEMOCRATIC DISPENSATION EMBARK ON DEMONSTRATION BUT NOT EXPECTED TO BECOME SENSEELEESSSS AND VIOLENT LIKE KNUST STUDENT. SRC OF KNUST IS A FAILED LEADERSHIP AND MUST BE PUNISHED FOR SUCH UNNECESSARY DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY. I AM EXPECTING NUGS TO COME OUT MATURES AND TO CONDEMN SUCH UNCIVILISEEDD BEHAVIOUR AND NOT TO CONDONE IT. WHAT LEGACY ARE WE LEAVING TO THE YOUNGER GENERATION. THE BEHAVIOUR OF KNUST STUDENT IS SO BAD THAT IT DOES NOT BEFIT SECONDARY OR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT. I EXPECT CIVIL SOCIETY, RELIGIOUS BODIES, AND PROFESSIONAL BODIES TO CONDEMN THIS UNRULYYYY BEHAVIOUR OF KNUST STUDENT IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS IMMEDIATELY. MANY OF KNUST STUDENT HAD JOIN THE DEMONSTRATION BUT HAD NOT DESIRED TO BE DESTRUCTIVE AND SENSELESSS. I EXPECT THE RIGHTTTT MINDED STUDENT TO HELP ANY INVESTIGATION BODY TO BE SET UP TO FISH OUT THE PERPERTRATORS OF THE VIOLENCE TO BE PUNISHED. THE CRIME COMMITTED FOR DESTROYING PROPERTIES MUST BE PAID FOR BY THE STUDENT. IT IS SHAMEFUL TO GHANA FOR PRODUCING SUCH INDISCIPLINE BUNCH OF PEOPLE FOR THE FUTURE GENERATION. UNIVERSITY STUDENTS SHOULD BECOME THINKERS AND CREATIVE TO SOLVE PROBLEMS AND NOT BRUTEE. ALL SHOULD CONDEMN THIS SHAMEFUL ACTION.
Attention seekers. As usual sticking out your necks like the proverbial hypocrite wanting to be counted among the responsible citizenery
