Karbo Launches Ti-Deltaa Women's Group

The Member of Parliament for Lawra, Anthony Abayifaa Karbo, on Saturday the 1st of December, 2018 launched the Ti-Deltaa Women's Group, at the Naa Abayifaa Memorial Park, as part of efforts by his office to empower women in the areas of commerce, skill acquisition and AgriBusiness.

While launching the group, the MP urged recipients of the soft loans the group intends to give to members to be diligent in the repayment of the loans in order for others to be able to tap benefit from it.

He further added that it was his vision to sustain this intervention to ensure its success. He stressed that the scheme would cover women in the constituency, regardless of their political affiliation.

The 3,050 members strong group with membership drawn from the four zones of the Lawra Municipality has been described as the first women's group of its kind to be established in the Constituency.

Speaking at the launch, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC Madam Afia Akoto praised the MP for his initiative and said her outfit was ready to partner and assist the group achieve its aims as it ties in with the mission of MASLOC.

Chairman of the Ti-Delta, Mr. Eric Puoviel pledged, on behalf of the group, to work hard to support the MP’s vision of developing the Municipality and eradicating poverty within the municipality.

He praised the Member of Parliament for mainstreaming the needs of women in the community and said when women are economically empowered; there would be peace and harmony at the household level, community level and national level.

He further cited improvements in household nutrition, children’s education, and household health as some of the benefits that come with economically empowering women.

He appealed to members of the public to support the group achieve its aims.

The Member of Parliament for Assin Central who led a delegation of dignitaries to the event, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong donated an amount of Ghc20,000 to the group.

Other dignitaries present included the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, the two Deputy Chief Executives of MASLOC, several Members of Parliament as well as Chiefs and opinion leaders from the Lawra Municipality.
