A number of wooden electric poles of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have been destroyed by fire recently.
Reports indicate that most of the poles were burnt at Sekyere Afram Plains and other communities in the Ashanti Region.
According to Erasmus Kyere-Baidoo, the Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the ECG, the rampant burning of the electric poles is having negative effects on the operations of the company.
He said fire outbreaks in the farming communities, especially at Sekyere Afram Plains, have led to the burning of some ECG poles.
Mr. Kyere-Baidoo said some farmers burnt their farms, leading to wooden electric poles being gutted in the process.
“This usually happens whenever we enter the dry season and it is impacting negatively on the operations of the ECG. Some communities are now without light because their electric poles have been gutted by fire outbreaks,” he indicated.
He admonished farmers to always be careful whenever they are burning their farms to help avert the burning of ECG poles.
The ECG communications director said his company usually spends a lot of money to replace burnt or damaged poles.
