Vice-President and leader of Ghana’s Economic Management Team, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on April 3, 2019 announced a 50% reduction on all import duties and 30% on cars which is currently taking effective.
He made the announcement when addressing the state of the economy during his maiden edition of a Town Hall Meeting which took place in Accra.
“To reduce the incidence of smuggling and enhance revenue, the benchmark delivery value of imports will be reduced by 50 per cent,” Dr. Bawumia said.
“We have realized from the studies we have done that our ports are not competitive, and the import regime in our country is far too high. We are dealing with it, and, very soon, the measures that the government will roll out will become known to all of you. I am not talking next year, or in 6 months’ time, I am talking very, very soon,” President Akufo-Addo said prior to the maiden Town Hall meeting.
His announcement has been welcomed with excitement by traders who came to NEAT FM’s studio to ‘thank’ the Nana Addo-led government.
