Abdul Rashid Maizango, who was ‘wrongly’ arrested by the police as a suspect in the gruesome murder of Ahmed Hussein-Suale, is still being held at the Nima Police Station close to a week after his arrest.

The family is disappointed that their son is still being held when the law enforcement officers ‘admitted’ to the lawyer that Maizango, 29, was ‘wrongly’ picked up as a suspect in the murder of the operative of Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Tiger Eye Investigative team.

Lawyer Seidu Nasigri told DAILY GUIDE last Friday that his client would be released at 3pm, which was changed to 4pm.

Some family members have had to endure the inconvenience of pitching camp at both the Police Headquarters and Nima Police Station.

They usually wait for times on end and send meals thrice a day to the suspect in his Nima Police Station holding facility.

The mother of the suspect is said to be feeling very ‘bad’ that her son is being held for a crime he never committed, emotion being shared by others who have been following the development so far.

Some residents of the Zongo communities are wondering why their colleagues continue to be harassed by the police.

The suspect’s elder brother, Abdul Nasir Maizango, told DAILY GUIDE yesterday that he is amazed that the police have not yet been able to get those who claim to know the killer to come and identify his brother or otherwise so he can regain his freedom.

“This is not fair considering the assurances the police gave us to the effect that they were going to release him first on Friday and now Monday which is turning out to be another untruth. This is an outright instance of human rights abuse and we intend to seek legal advice,” he indicated.

Questions are being posed as to why the wrong person should still be detained by the police.
