The National Identification Authority (NIA) has asked Ghanaians to bear with them as they are facing some technical challenges with the registration processes.

According to them, they are however working to resolve all those challenges to ensure smooth registration at the various centres.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, Director in charge of Public Affairs for the Authority, Mr. Francis Palmedetti explained that they have monitored and followed the registration process at the various centres and that they are working to rectify those challenges.

He also asked members of the public to report any act of financial malpractices at the centres, adding that nobody should be made to pay for the registration exercise.

He also added it was also wrong for the financial institutions to deny persons who try to transact business with the card.

The mass registration exercise is ongoing at designated centres in the capital, Accra.

The process at some registration centres has, however, been dogged by delays, shortage of material, extortion, registration of foreigners in violation of the law, registration outside of the designated centres and out of time, among others.

Last week a registration officer was arrested for attempting to register two Nigeriens posing as Ghanaians.

He reportedly confessed to police officers he was offered and received, GHS60 to commit the unlawful act.

His supervisor chanced upon him and caused his arrest.

Two other officials of the NIA were caught registering persons after registration hours and at a private residence at Awudome in Accra.
