Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah has explained that gov’t is constructing more storm drains to check flooding in Accra.
Currently, there are some twenty-one (21) dredging and desilting works currently ongoing in Greater Accra. These include works ongoing at South Kaneshie, Sukura-Mampon, Mataheko, Kaneshie Highway, St Mary’s at Korle Gonno, Calypso Drain at Kpone Katamanso, Awudome, Kwashie Bu, Bale Down Stream, Castle Drain at Klottey Lagoon and Agbogbloshie.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, she explained that the flooding in Accra and some parts of the country has become a national canker which needs to be addressed permanently.
"So the President has made it abundantly clear, that he is committed to stopping this flood issues," she said.
She added that though the activities of Ghanaians are the major cause of these floods, government still needs to do its part by ensuring that these drains are constructed on time to make sure that no more lives are lost when there is a heavy down pour.
Regardless, Ghanaians should help by desisting from continually littering about as it is a major problem.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Tuesday, inspected ongoing dredging works on the Odaw river, and the construction of a storm drain at Kaneshie First Light in Accra.
The Kaneshie First Light storm drain project is aimed at helping to alleviate the perennial flooding at the place.
The project is being implemented under the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources by the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA) Sanitation and Water Project.
The Project is being funded by the World Bank.

Get ZOOM LION to sweep our streets and also weed the ***barred word*** in the middle of our streets(pavement) It is an eye sore.
This is good but not the solution ,let get the young , intelligent ,best manpower we have at ministry to tackle this from upstream . The oyibi ,dodowa ,aburi ,pokuase etc area because all the water from northern part of Accra run down south . Let encourage people to plant green grass instead of cementing their compound . We can setup basic lawn trimmer company to produce lawn trimmer for Ghana and the subregion , moving away from Cutlass use in trimming our lawns . The government should try and purchase large land close by major streams in oyibi ,dodowa, pokuase etc to develop large man made lake to serve as rain receptacles .The densu should be protected ,the way people are building close to it ,very soon the weija location of densu will be like odaw ,let act now .Let is also encourage people to build rain havesting tanks in their houses ,water harvesed can be used to wash cars ,water plants ,flush toilet and other domestic is .Let protect the rest of the natural drainage path ,break down building s close to them by 100 m . Also let protect the natural Ponds and lakes around . Let the hydrology department design numerous receptacles at that will filter debris , rubbish using stone barriers and also release run off water slowly into streams and lakes ,this is a very common design in advanced countries where there is land especially around housing units and their highway.
