Former President John Jerry Rawlings has condemned the police for brutalizing some law graduates who demonstrated on Monday to push for reforms in Ghana’s legal education.
In a tweet he wrote: "The heavy and high-handed manner the Police handled the demonstration by law students was most uncalled for. The conduct of the demonstration did not warrant the use of hot water cannons and rubber bullets".
The Police fired rubber bullets and sprayed water on the students, injuring a number of them.
Thirteen of the protestors were also arrested and later granted bail.
According to the Ghana Police Service, their demonstration was illegal.
Meanwhile, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and other pundits have also criticized the high-handedness of the police.

Lets not be quick to blame the GLc. The truth is that the questions leaked together with the narki g scheme. The GLC don't want to talk about this and all the students who were found to have answered exactly According to the leaked marking scheme we're failed. That's why the students are demanding the publication of the marking scheme.. Our students are being taught to chew and pour..that is what will happen. Law students who failed should ***barred word*** and prepare to rewrite..period.
Mr Rawlings is always right. Mr Right Rawlings. He murdered, he maimed he stole and yet still hes enjoying all the privileges on this planet earth. Mr Right Rawlings, will you please ***barred word***! You did the worse.
When will nana addo also learn to open his big mouth to condemn brutalities and stop the hypocrisy of waiting until things get out of hand before he speaks. Whenever there is an issue that taints his government, he never speaks until people start bombarding him with criticisms. That is not a sign of a good leader. For instance, this CSE issue, this man kept quite until they coached him to come and lie to us. The same was the issue of pds, ppa etc. Must you always be pressured to act. The man is a complete disappointment to Ghanaians.
LOOK AT WHO IS TAKING. DID THESE ACTS OF BRUTALITY NOT START WITH YOU? ELDERLY PEOPLE BEING CANED IN PUBLIC, ONE MAN ONE HOUSE,ONE MAN ONE TOILET MANTRA, ALL THESE ACTS OF BRUTALITIES ARE FRESH IN THE MINDS OF THOSE WHO REMEMBER YOUR ATROCITIES. JUST KEEP QUIET.IF WE HAD BRAVE LEADERS IN GHANA YOU WOULD BE IN JAIL BY NOW INSTEAD OF ENJOYING YOUR ILL GOTTEN WEALTH AT THE BACK OF THOSE YOU MURDERED.TIME WILL TELL.
