A Professor of Political Science at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Edward Gyampo says whoever was responsible for the Akosomobo Dam spillage must leave post with immediate effect.
To him, even though the dam spillage was necessary, the approach was unacceptable.
“Whoever is responsible for that must be punished,” he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show, 'Ghana Montie'.
At least, 26,000 people have been displaced along the lower Volta Basin as officials continue to take stock of the extent of havoc and devastation caused by the spillage of the Akosombo and Kpong dams.
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has confirmed that the spillage by the Volta River Authority (VRA) has disrupted economic activities, stripped communities of their livelihoods and left many people needing emergency help with food, water and health care.
However, Prof. Ransford wonders why Ghana has no method to save excess water from the dam for future use.

Did he really say that? what has he been smoking?
I came straight to the comment section and my comments have be adequately addressed here. Attention seeking noisy prof.
This so-called professor is now becoming a nuisance. Just looking for attention and to trend on social media, that is all he is doing. Is it because the water is coming from a dam? When parts of the North were flooded and farms and roads destroyed, did you ask that someone should be punished? You don't even know anything about dams, but just open your mouth and talk. Please give us a break!
A very irresponsible statement from a professor. This comment has exposed this “educated” illiterate. A comment not based on facts on the ground
Too much talking leads to error, liars & sin. Check your tongue, you don't know it all.
Prof. attention seeker, are you saying the dam should not be opened or what? Let's assume we allow the level of the water to exceed it safe level without opening and it collapsed won't the volume of water in the neighborhood be more than what we are witnessing now? Give solutions for the excess water to be used without just opening into the neighborhood and stop this tsupid talks. We can easily use this excess water for irrigations by passing it through tunnels in mini dams and this are the kind of things we expect from so called professor not just punishing someone and what next? Next time then no body want to get punished so they allow the dam to collapse like it just in Lybia? Professor indeed tweeaaaa
Truly incoherent argument! Punished for what? The spillage or lack of education? Eiii, this man!
This your comment at this critical moments for the affected does not make sense.
maybe we should also punished the fake lecturers that pass out those incompetent engineers and managers that went to their tertiary institutions
So called academicians don't make reasonable sense anymore...they just crave media attention...instead of them to be critical thinkers, solution profers and educate the public, the contrary is the obvious...always blaming and pointing fingers without solution.
