The Church of Pentecost, Nsawam Zone, comprising three district branches at the weekend presented assorted items valued at about GH2,000 to the inmates of the Nsawam Security Medium Prisons.
The items include loaves of bread, biscuits, soaps, secondhand shoes and clothing and soft drinks.
Presenting the items on behalf of the church, Pastor Mrs Rebecca Asamoah of the Adoagyiri branch said despite being prisoners, the inmates were at liberty to serve God.
She said their sins should not stop them from worshipping God.
Pastor Mrs Asamoah called on the prisoners to learn some trade while in the prison in order for them to live decent lives when they were released.
She announced that the church would extend its contribution to society to hospitals and orphanages in the Municipality.
Assistant Director of Prisons (ADP) Ofori Anoff, who received the items on behalf of Deputy Director of Prisons, Ansong Agyepong, commended the church for the gesture and said it showed that the prisoners were not cut off from humanity.
ADP Anoff appealed to other churches, philanthropists and charitable organizations to also come to the aid of the prisoners.
