The Right Reverend Professor Osei Safo-Kantanka, out-going Methodist Bishop of Kumasi, has encouraged everybody to make the most of their God-given talents and potentials to better their lives.

He said Ghanaians owed it a responsibility to make determined efforts to overcome poverty and other indignities.

He said it was totally unacceptable that “most of our people have grown to believe that poverty and the state of hopelessness are part of the African culture and way of life”.

The Rt. Rev Prof Safo-Kantanka, who made the call at a valedictory service held in his honour at the Wesley Cathedral in Kumasi, said that had affected their psyche, thus crippling their mental strength to deal with their own development challenges.

He underlined that God in his infinite wisdom had gifted Africans their own development potentials, and these must be tapped and exploited for their own good.

“I do not think the white race is superior to the black in terms of intelligence. What has kept them ahead of us is rooted in their many years of thinking, research, selflessness and commitment to advance the cause of humanity.”

The Rt. Rev Prof Safo-Kantanka ends his six-year watch over the church at the close of this month, and will be replaced by the Very Rev Christopher Nyarko Andam, the Diocesan Synod Secretary.

He recommended to the church to put premium on leadership training for the identifiable youth groups, and said that was the path to travel to assure it of dynamic and responsible future leaders.

He promised to give to his successor the necessary support to promote the growth of the Church.
