Prang Now Local Mecca For Tijaniyya Muslims

Prang, a predominantly farming community in the Brong Ahafo Region is gradually becoming the local pilgrim host to Tijaniyya Muslims in the country. 

For four (4) decades now, the religious sect converge annually in the town for the celebration of the life of Sheikh Ahmed Tijani and many have other programmes, with steady improvement in numbers of attendees. It was not different last week Friday when the numbers that turned up at Prang included the Vice presidential candidate of the New patriotic party Dr. Mahamoud Bawumia, former Greater Accra regional Minister Sheikh I C Quaye, some members of the Nasara Club, Mr. Kamalad of the Iranian embassy among others.

A number of programs were rolled out during the two day event which ended on Saturday. There were songs of praises, preaching and other fun activities.

In a sermon on Friday, the Spiritual leader of Tijaniyya Muslim Council of Ghana, Sheikh Abul-Faidi Abdulai Ahmed Milano Jallo, called on all to eschew religious, political and social differences, with the potential of igniting unrest in the country.

He bemoaned terrorist attacks occurring in some countries which have resulted in the loss of lives and properties around the globe.

Dr. Muhse Maarefi, the Iranian President of Islamic University College of Ghana described Sheikh Abdulai Ahmed Maikano Jallo as a great man of substance, and praised the Tijaniya sect for according respect to all.

He extended invitation from the Iranian President to Khalifatul –Akbar to visit their country and also presented an undisclosed amount as their contribution to aid the event.

Chairman of Ghana’s Tijaniya Muslim Council on behalf of the council, thanked the Iranian consular for the kind gesture and presented him with Fugu (smock) which Dr. Bawumia used to decorate him.

In the late morning of Saturday, a function was organized to outdoor Shiekh Abdulah Maikano Charity Foundation, a Non-Government Organization aimed at improving the livelihood of the needy and less privilege in communities through sustainable communal level interventions.

Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia, together with Sheikh Khalifa performed the inaugural ceremony to unveil the plaque in declaring the organization duly launched. Solidarity messages from various speakers urge all members of the organization to give up their best in ensuring its success.

Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia was touched and expressed concern on how Arabic and Islamic studies were taught in most of the numerous Junior High Schools in the country and ends there despite the willingness of most students to further their studies.

He said it was part of their agenda to lift it to higher height to enable those who have the zeal to continue through Senior High Schools to tertiary institutions.

Dr. Bawumia pledged to assist in the construction of Skeikh Abdulai Maikano shrine to give him a befitting resting place.

Other dignitaries who attended the function were the Algerian Deputy Head of Mission Mr. Faroku and Dr Ali Reza Vazin, the Iranian consular.

Prang is an old town in the Pru District of the Brong Ahafo region of Ghana and the residents are predominantly farmers. The historical town was once known as the most vibrant and most popular centre for cattle transactions.
