The Asawasi Divisional Police Command has arrested 22-year old Kofi Emmanuel, who posed as a police officer and went about duping innocent citizens.
So daring is he that, at one instance, he assisted a uniformed officer and produced a pair of handcuffs, which was used on a suspect.
Kofi however managed to escape when he was later asked to produce the keys to unlock the handcuffs.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) George Kumah, Divisional Commander, told the Ghana News Agency that his arrest on August 30, this year, followed a tip off.
He said they received information that somebody dressed in police uniform was extorting money from motorists at the Kumasi Airport Roundabout at about 2100 hours.
Some officers at the Asawasi Station were quickly dispatched and they succeeded in apprehending him.
DSP Kumah said at the police station, he was identified by the officer he once helped to effect an arrest by providing handcuffs.
He said when asked how he came by the police uniform and handcuffs, Kofi, who claimed he hailed from Brong-Ahafo, said he saw the uniform hanging on a dry-line and the handcuffs lying on the ground and took them.
Meanwhile, one Kennedy, a washing bay attendant, identified Kofi at the Asawasi Police Station as the one who snatched his mobile phone and three Ghana cedis at the Paradise Gas Filling Station in a police uniform.
DSP Kumah appealed for more public support to enable the police to rein in criminals in the society.
