The Tarkwa Circuit court, presided over by Samuel Obeng Diewuo, has banned Tarkwa Kwame, a taxi driver from driving for the next three years and seized his driving license.

Earlier, Police Chief Inspector Edward Paddy, prosecuting had told the court that on September 9, Kwame, who was driving a taxi cab (with registration no. AS 5969 W) was arrested at Wassa Ntwentwena for speeding at 85kph instead of 50kph. His driving license showed that he is 19, an age at which one is not permitted by law to drive a commercial vehicle.

The court also sentenced Stephen Baidoo and Bernard Aboa, both drivers, to three months imprisonment each for driving under the influence of alcohol. Baidoo was charged for causing road obstruction and driving under the influence of alcohol while Aboa faced the charge of careless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol. They pleaded guilty. The prosecutor said about 3 pm on the same day, Aboa, driving a vehicle with registration umber WE 2522 Z, cashed into the front bumper of another vehicle.

He was arrested by the police and in the course of investigations, he was tested with an intoximeter and founded to be drunk. Mr. Paddy said at about 10am on the same day, Baidoo driving a taxi cab with registration number GE 6348-09 made a sudden “U-Turn” at a prohibited area and in the process, caused traffic jam.
