The Greater Accra Regional Council of the Local Government workers Union (LGWU), says they fully support the implementation of the single spine salary structure, which is to start soon. The Council says the LGWU is not part of or under the civil and local government staff union and that they are independent.
The Greater Accra Chairman of the Local government Workers Union of Ghana TUC, Mr. Anthony Oppong stated these at a press briefing in Accra.
He said the local government workers union met with government representatives being the fair wages commission with other organized labour associations and signed a memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on anticipated bottlenecks of the single spine salary programme was discussed and now satisfied with the programme. Mr. Anthony Oppong urged government to expedite action on local government service to start work after its inauguration. He said the pace of implementation process is too slow and that it is time the local government service begins work.
