The Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) in collaboration with the energy commission under LI 1935 regulations 2008, has announced new penalties against the breach of standards of performance by the electricity Service providers in the country namely ECG, GRIDCO and VRA.
At a press briefing in Accra, the Executive Secretary of the PURC, Mr. Stephen Adu said each (any) breach of the law by any of the electricity service providers will attract a single penalty unit which has a value of 12 Ghana cedis.
Mr. Stephen Adu said some of the breaches by the electricity service providers which will attract the penalties are: delays in connecting applicants to electricity services, interruptions in power supply, delays in the provision and replacement of electricity meters for customers and failure by the service provider (ECG) to provide a prepayment vending point within 10 kilometers of customers premises for customers to buy credit for their pre-paid meters. According to Mr. Stephen Adu, penalties for the water sector will also be announced in due course.
