The allegation by the Akyempimhene of Kumasi, Oheneba Adusei Poku, on an Accra-based radio station, and that of the Asanteman Council that Oseadeeyo Ameyaw Ekumfi IV, Paramount Chief of the Techiman traditional area, has been going round allegedly claiming that he was untouchable because of his affiliation with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pushed the latter to come out with a disclaimer.

According to a Deputy National Organiser of the party, Capt. Agamba, the claims by the Techimanhene were false, stressing that the party does not associate itself with chieftaincy politics.

“The NDC does not know (the) Techimanhene to be a member of our party, we have no document o show that he is a strong member of our dear party, so he must stop bandying such rumours around,” he stressed.

Speaking Fox FM M in Kumasi, the NDC Deputy Organizer noted that it was very unfortunate that the Chief of Techiman could go around holding himself as a member of the party, when he publicly denounced the NDC during the heat of the 2008 electioneering campaign.

Capt. Agamba recounted that in the heat of the electioneering campaign for the 2008 general elections, Oseeadeyo Ameyaw Ekumfi IV overtly denied the former President Jerry John Rawlings the opportunity to visit his palace, for the simple reason that he was not a member of the party, and did not want to be dragged into the affairs of the ruling party.

“So, we are very surprised that today this same Chief is going about saying that he is a member of our party; we in the NDC do not want to get involved in this traditional scuffle; we recognise the people of Techiman as Ghanaians, and not a Chief or any individual,” he noted.
