The Ga Traditional Council has welcomed the decision of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs to support and recognise the embattled Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Tackie Tawiah III, as the legitimate King of the Ga State.

According to the Traditional Council, the newly enstooled Ga Mantse, Nii Adama Latse II, was installed by persons who have no clean or clear credentials hence his enstoolment cannot be legitimate.

Addressing journalists on behalf of the Ga Traditional Council in Accra on Tuesday July 5, Gbese Mantse, Nii Okaidja III, stated that due to the Council’s disregard for the installation, none of its members was present.

He said the Council has resolved to adhere to the Regional House of Chiefs’ decision in 2008, which recognises Nii Tackie Tawiah the third as the rue Ga Mantse.

According to him, the Council is disappointed about the actions of some government officials regarding the stalemate.

“The Council wishes to express its disappointment at the failure of some members of government to abide by the often repeated promise by the President of the Republic to strengthen and deepen democracy and the rule of law in this country. We also respectfully invite the President John Evans Atta Mills to take urgent steps to ensure that his officials respect the rule of law by protecting every individual who comes under attack from any group of people or individual and allow the legal processes to be followed”.

“We cannot but stress that this is the capital and everything that happens here is being looked at by everyone not only in Ghana, but from abroad. All the diplomatic missions are looking at what happens in Accra and so it is important that we all adhere to law and order” he noted,

On her part, the Queenmother of the Ga State, Naa Dedei Omadru, said they will not watch unconcerned for people to ruin the Ga State”.

She expressed disgust at the recent happenings adding that she had on countless occasions contacted people authority to help curb the situation but to no avail.

“We have all seen what has been going on. But we will not sit down for children to ruin the Ga State because that is not how it happened during the time of our forefathers. If there is a disagreement in the installation of a Chief, it is addressed in private. You only destroy what does not belong to you. You claim that his installation was not through the right process, but would you say what you did is the right process? When the issue came up, I personally consulted some people in authority but all they said was that they were going to look into the issue but nothing happened”.
