Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Election 2012, at the weekend donated relief items to victims hit by severe flooding in some parts of the Eastern Region.

The items included 150 mattresses, 300 bars of soap, 300 bags of rice, 400 gallons of cooking oil, 400 packs of water and 500 pieces of cloth to victims in the Atiwa constituency. A press release, copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, said Nana Akufo-Addo had sympathized with the victims a day after the floods.

It explained that the NPP flag bearer said he “found the need to also support them with some relief items because these are very trying times for you and all of us must do what we can to bring immediate relief to you.”

The statement said Nana Akufo-Addo visited displaced people and bereaved families in areas including Ankaase, Enyeresi, New Jejeti, Asumafo, Abomosu, Asamanma, Akwabowso, Akrofufu, Morso and Kwabeng in the Region.

It said Nana Akufo-Addo was in the company of Mr Kwesi Amoako-Atta, Member of Parliament (MP) for Atiwa, Mr Samuel Atta Akyea, MP for Abuakwa South, Mr Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, NPP General Secretary, and leading members of the party including Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo and Mr Hackman Owusu Agyemang and NPP Regional executives.

It said Nana Akufo-Addo was expected to visit the Fanteakwa constituency to make similar donations to flood victims there.
