The mortal remains of Solomon Kwabena Atta Kumah, 83, were interred at the Osu Cemetery last Saturday after a colourful church service at the 37 Military Hospital’s Quarter Master Yard.

Although his pal, former President Jerry John Rawlings, could not turn up to witness the last rites for a man he popularized when he made reference to him in an anecdote in a political speech last year, he was represented.

The late Mr. Atta Kumah, who hailed from Kete Krachi in the Volta Region, had worked as a mortuary attendant for the past 43 years at the military hospital until his death.

His mortal remains were laid in state between 6 am and 12 noon, followed by a funeral church service. He was survived by a wife, Mrs. Rebecca Atta Kumah and five children and five grandchildren.

His dream of powdering Rawlings, should the former president die before him, did not materialize as he departed before him. Rawlings too was unable to powder his friend because he was attending an official engagement elsewhere.

Although a civilian employee, the military played a prominent role in the pre-burial and burial arrangements.
