The Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Subsidiary Legislation, Osei Kwame Prempeh, has given a free legal advice to the Auditor General, Richard Quartey, to resign honourably or be “legally forced out” following his conduct in the Ghc51 million judgment debt.

The former deputy Attorney General said Mr. Quarter has “undermined the integrity of his office” after having come back to clarify payment made to beleaguered National Democratic Congress (NDC) financier, Alfred Woyome in 2010.

He told Joy Fm if the A-G failed to call it quit the main opposition will “put pressure on him” by organizing demonstrations or will “take the appropriate legal action” to force him out of office.

The A-G in a recent press statement clarified that his outfit made just a payment of GhC17 million in judgment debt to Mr. Woyome in 2010 and not GhC58 million as captured in its own report to Parliament that same year.

It said an initial payment order for GHc41,811,480. 59 was issued on April 6, but this transaction was reversed on April 13 and put on hold at the Bank of Ghana (BOG).

The statement said on September 22, another payment order for GHc17, 094,493. 54 was issued and paid to Mr Woyome.

“This payment was cleared by BOG and subsequently paid to Mr Woyome,” it said.

The statement noted that correspondence on the reversal of the GHc41, 811,480. 59 was not attached to the original order in the books of the Controller and Accountant General and was therefore, not available to the team of auditors from the Office of the Auditor-General, who conducted the audit of the Public Accounts maintained by the Controller and Accountant General.

“The Office of the Auditor-General would like to state that any payments made in 2011 will be examined during the audit of the Consolidated Fund for 2011,” it said.
