THE CONTINUED stay in office of the Inspector General of Police and the Executive Secretary of the Narcotics Control Board, Paul Tawiah Quaye and Yaw Akrasi Sarpong respectively poses a national security threat to Ghana, according to the Progressive National Forum (PNF).

In a statement signed by president of the grouping Richard Nyamah, the forum noted “it is the contention of the Progressive Nationalist Forum that the two security bosses are grossly incompetent and have consistently brought their organisations into public ridicule and disrepute.”

The IGP the grouping observed has turned the Ghana Police Service into a gendarme that sees to the protection of his pay masters instead of the general security of the people of Ghana adding that “his continuous stay in office will only help sink the already dented image of the police service and reduce morale among the service personnel.”

The IGP’s consistent misuse of the police service such as parading them to embarrass themselves in parliament to ensure the passing of the now defunct STX project, the forum noted was untoward.

It also pointed at the arrest and detention of police personnel in the central region who were performing their duties when they (police) arrested a deputy minister who was over speeding as one of the anomalies taking place under the administration of the current IGP.

“His handling of the cocaine turned baking soda, where he instructed the police to hold a press conference and clear themselves when an investigation was yet to be conducted, are but a few examples of how he is ridiculing the Ghana Police Service,” the grouping went on adding that “Mr Tawiah Quaye’s consistent marginalization, wanton transfer of police personnel on the orders of politicians, and general lack of support for police officers has killed their morale to the point of it becoming a national security threat.”

On the NACOB boss, the PNF noted that he has consistently disgraced himself with his unwarranted politicization of security issues and his over zealousness which has brought public ridicule to his person and NACOB as an organization.

“It should be noted that the arrest of officers of NACOB especially his own special assistant in the recent drug bust is enough indictment on his competence and capabilities.

Mr. Akrasi Sarpong also dabbled in the recent cocaine turned baking soda saga when he passed a clean bill of health on the police service and went to town with the judiciary, in an apparent attempt to satisfy his paymasters.”

The investigation by the BNI and the Chief Justices’ committee the grouping explained “have coincidently exonerated the judiciary and indicted certain police officers. What has Mr. Sarpong got to say on these reports? He cannot continue to hide his incompetence in rhetoric.”

Both personalities according to the grouping should be relieved of their posts.
