THE KWABRE West Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set aside 10 days to mourn Hon. Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah, Member of Parliament (MP) for the area.

At a meeting held at the party’s constituency office in Kodie on Friday to officially announce the MP’s death to members, the Constituency Chairman, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, said all party activities had been suspended with immediate effect till the 10-day period elapsed.

According to him, the constituency offices of the party would not be opened during the period, asking all members to wear red armbands.

He described the death of Mr. Owusu-Ansah, 73, as a “great loss,” while urging “the NPP family to keep faith since God gives and He also takes.”

Odeneho recalled the services of Mr. Owusu-Ansah to the Kwabre West Constituency as MP and Ashanti Regional Minister, adding that the deceased performed his duties with dedication and devotion.

He said the family of the late MP had postponed the one-week celebration of Owusu Ansah’s death to next week Friday at his Bonso hometown.

The NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, William Aidoo, stated that the demise of the MP should unite all factions in the constituency as that was the wish of Hon. Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah.

Prior to the chairman’s declaration, a minute’s silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed soul.

All the members prayed to the Almighty God to grant peace to the departed soul and asked Him to give courage to the bereaved family to enable them bear the irreparable loss.

This was after Rev. (Mrs.) Esther Anane, priest of the Kodie Methodist Church, had given them words of encouragement, quoting from Psalm 90:1 – 12.

Those who attended the meeting included polling station executives and constituency executive members, assembly members in the constituency and other party faithful.

Two bottles of schnapps were presented to the chief of Bonso, Nana Osei Akoto, by the NPP executives, as tradition demanded. The chief praised the NPP members for sympathizing with the family of the deceased.
