The issue of head porters popularly known as kayayie seems to have been neglected for a while now.
Their lives seem to have been decimated with no hope from anywhere even though they migrated to the South to find hope.
Most of these porters mostly women, leave the comfort of their villages with the intention of seeking greener pastures. On the contrary, they are embraced with difficulties such as no accommodation, no education, malnutrition and other vices.
They just work to keep body and soul together with no opportunity to save for the future. The question is, what is government doing to help these groups of people to have a better life and enjoy the social amenities like every other Ghanaian.
Peacefmonline.com went out to bring you pictures of some of the head porters struggling for survival. One of them in her quest to find a place to rest, had nowhere than under a KIA truck.
