There was drama at Agotime-Kpoitoa in the Volta Region on Friday evening when the chiefs and elders of the village prevented the family of the 50-year-old man from burying him in the village.
According to the chiefs the dead man owed the land an amount of money, which they insist must be paid before the burial.
In an interview with Citi News a family member of the deceased, Yao Peter said the actions of the chiefs are unacceptable.
I am so much annoyed that I do not understand why a dead person must be owing somebody; we are being asked to pay whatever he owed before we can perform any rite.
