Road users and pedestrians were horrified by an accident involving seven vehicles which occurred during rush hour just before the new Achimota overhead on the Achimota -Nsawam highway around 9:15 Friday morning.
An eyewitness told Peacefmonline.com that the driver of a DAF Leyland cargo truck with registration number GW 7784 W, seemed to have failed its breaks and lost control of the fully loaded vehicle whose content is readily unknown, running into an on-going blue corolla taxi cab with registration number GS 6224-09, pushing it under a trailer with registration number AS 6175 Z, mangling it beyond repairs.
The DAF Leyland cargo truck however pushed four other cars with registration numbers GE 977 X, GW 7894-13 and AS 6568-11 out of its way, dragging another black salon corolla car with registration number GW 3267 W along through a distance of about fifty meters and finally pushing it over the on-coming lane.
The police were swift to cordon the accident scene, protect the content of the cargo and bring the traffic situation under control despite the fact that the driver and other occupants of the DAF Leyland cargo truck managed to escape from the accident scene.
There were no causalities but the victims have been rushed to the Achimota Hospital whiles the police continue investigations to ascertain the true cause of the accident.
