2 Notorious Armed Robbers Gunned Down (WARNING...Graphic Image)

The Asokwa police in collaboration with the Buffalo Unit in Kumasi last night foiled a robbery attempt which was planned to take place in Accra by some suspected armed robbers.

The police had intelligence that the suspected robbers had planned to rob a business man in Accra as such mounted a road block yesterday at about 11:30pm around Ampabame near Boankra to intercept them.

Addressing the press this afternoon, the Deputy Ashanti regional police commander ACP Simon Afeku disclosed that the robbers who were on board a taxi cab, on reaching the police check point were signaled to stop but declined, and run over the barrier in a bid to escape from the police but were however given a hot chase and when they realized the patrol team was closing in on them engaged them in a shoot-out.

Two of the robbers lost their lives in the process whilst one other managed to escape.

Items found on the deceased were a hand bag containing the following items, three (3) locally made pistols, a bunch of keys, two (2) knives,16 live cartridges, 4 empty cartridges, a wallet, 2 hoods, a hat,1 Holy Bible and a voter’s ID card bearing the name Faustina Achiaa.

In a related development, one more robber in connection with the Fumesua branch of the Juabeng rural bank robbery was shot dead yesterday at 6:00pm in an uncompleted building at Duase near Kenyase on the Antoa Road.

He added that the Police had intelligence the robber was hiding in the uncompleted building and proceeded to the place. On seeing the police, he fired at them compelling them (police) to return fire resulting in his death.

A machete was retrieved at the scene as well as a pistol.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Police command is appealing to the general public to give swift and accurate information on any criminal activity that may be going on anywhere in the metropolis.
