The Asante Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), has held the Seventh New Year School with a call to the clergy to remain focused on their missionary work.

The Reverend Professor Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, President of the Trinity Theological Seminary, expressed concern about the situation where many of them were increasingly becoming self-centered, relegating the purpose of their calling to the background.

“We have a scenario now where some reverend ministers instead of working to salvage society from evil deeds, are more interested in their own popularity, wealth and favour amongst men.”

This, he said, was unhealthy for Christendom and that things needed to change.

The School is held annually to provide the platform for the Presbytery to discuss ways of enhancing the spread of the gospel.

Again, it is used to sensitize the members on their responsibilities to advance the cause of the church.

The Rev Prof Mante lauded the church for initiating the programme to do some soul-searching and review its performance.

It was necessary for the church to constantly subject its own activities to scrutiny to strengthen the internal structures.

The Rev Kofi Amfo-Akonnor, the Asante Presbytery Chairperson, said they would not relent in their efforts to promote both spiritual and physical growth of the society.
