Management of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has confirmed the dead body found in the early hours of Wednesday, February 15 in a community near the University is that of a 19-year-old Godwin Chukwudi Ayogu, a Nigerian.

However, a press release signed by the Senior Assistant Registrar of UCC, Major Kofi Baah–Bentum (rtd) and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday said as at the time of his death, he was not a registered student of the University.

This is because he failed to register with the University at the beginning of the 2013/2014 academic year.

It said Chukwudi was admitted into UCC at the beginning of the 2011/2012 academic year to pursue Bachelor of Arts in Social Science and was due to enter Level 300 before his demise.

According to the release, a team led by the head of Chancellery at the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana, which included his father and other family members from Nigeria had since held discussions with the University Management on the incident.

“The Vice Chancellor wishes to extend his condolences of Management, Staff, Students and the entire University community to the bereaved family,” it said.

The Cape Coast Metropolitan Police are investigating the incident.

The late Godwin Chukwudi Ayogu was found dead in the early hours of Wednesday February 15 near a hostel in a community near UCC with his hands and legs tied and intestines gushing out.
