Contractors working on the Sofoline Interchange Project are yet to receive funding to resume work. The 80 million dollars project, which was due for completion in 2010, has suffered a series of setbacks hence the delay in completion.

The project has on numerous occasions been trumpeted by the Government in budget statements and in state of the nation addresses.

And President John Dramani Mahama did not skip it in his 2014 State of the Nation address. Although he did not dwell much on it, he stated that the project would be completed.

But during a visit by Ultimate Radio to the site, it came out that work had halted. A Consultant to the Contractor, China Geo Engineering Corporation, Ato Badupra told Ultimate Radio, work has been suspended because the Contractor is owed some substantial amount by Government.

Speaking to Ultimate Radio’s P.K Dickson, he lamented “the contractor indeed has no funds to continue the project”. He said “at the moment, the government owes about two to three certificates which are quite substantial so we are hoping that anytime there is money available the government will release funds for us to resume work on the project” he noted.

The contractor is currently on site but all the equipment are on standby. Workers of the construction company have not been laid off but asked to hold on until funds are released for the continuation of the project
Mr. Ato Badupra said the entire Sofoline project is about seventy three percent complete.

He however indicated that the interchange phase of the project which has partly been opened to traffic was over ninety percent complete with a road furnishing yet to be done.
